An Author Among Us!

We are pleased to announce that one of our own, Natalee Creech, has penned a children’s book When Day is Done set to release on February 12, 2019. When Day Is Done is a quiet, going-to-bed book that portrays the world going to sleep. With wonderfully soothing phrases and illustrations in calming hues, it’s sure to become every child’s go-to bedtime story.

Natalee Creech was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada; home to the much loved fictional heroine, Anne, of the Green Gables book series. She and her husband have been married 15 years and have two beautiful children. Their family adventures have spanned countries and continents with their last home port being McAlester, OK. Natalee has been deeply involved with the programming for children since 2016. Her hard work and dedication to the library has made her a valued, much-loved member of staff with patrons and fellow employees alike.

For more insightful information on Natalee and When Day is Done, be sure to read her Q&A posted along with the newly revealed cover art.You will be able to pre-order When Day is Done directly from beamingbooks.com around Aug. 15th, or from large online stores around the end of July. And of course, you will be able to borrow it from McAlester Public Library once it is released. We wish Natalee all the best, not only in her writing career but in everything she does, and we can’t wait for copies of When Day is Done to arrive!

When Day Is Done final cover

About the Book:  When Day Is Done is a quiet, going-to-bed book that portrays the world going to sleep.

Author:  Natalee Creech
Illustrator:  Robert Dunn
Publisher:  Beaming Books
Publishing Date:  Feb. 12, 2019

Q:  How did you get started writing?

A:  I believe we’re all creators. We manifest that gift in many different ways – by dancing, creating music, baking, drawing, designing clothes or architecture . . . even sculpting with our mashed potatoes or scribbling on the walls in crayon! I’ve always loved children’s books, poetry, and writing for my own pleasure, but it took me a long time to decide I wanted to be a published children’s author. (That’s not a real job, is it?) I “got serious” about writing three years ago when I joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. SCBWI has helped me learn more about the children’s literature industry, the craft of writing for children, and what steps I needed to take to pursue publication.

Q:  Why did you choose to do your cover reveal on McAlester Public Library’s website?

A:  Working at the library for the past few years has been my dream job. I’ve gotten to immerse myself in children’s books every day, and it was while working here part-time that I wrote When Day Is Done!

Q:  What has been the most exciting part of having your book published?

A:  Each step just keeps getting better! It was exciting to sign the contract because you know your book will be published, but it doesn’t seem real at that point. It’s hard to imagine the final product. It was more exciting to find out the illustrator – the publisher chooses the illustrator – and to see some of his other work. (You can find the illustrator, Robert Dunn, on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RobertDunnIllustration/) Now that I’ve seen the cover, I have to say that’s the most exciting part because it’s my first look at something specifically created for the words I wrote. Robert Dunn captured the mood of the book perfectly. I love the palette of colors he used and can’t wait to hold the physical book in my hands or see it in a store. I’m sure that moment will top everything else!

Q:  When will your book be available, and how can people order it?

A:  The release date is February 12, 2019. You will be able to pre-order it directly from beamingbooks.com around Aug. 15th, or from large online stores (you know the ones I mean) around the end of July. And of course, you will be able to borrow it from McAlester Public Library once it is released!
